Rowlett Homes for Sale

Covering roughly twenty-two square miles in western Rockwall and eastern Dallas Counties, the City of Rowlett, Texas, is an excellent place to live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Dalrock Road is the dividing county line with most of the city falling within Dallas County, surrounded by Lake Ray Hubbard on two sides. The lake, which was completed in 1971, serves as a recreation destination as well as a water reservoir and makes Rowlett a desirable lakefront community. After the lake’s completion, Rowlett’s population grew from five thousand and one hundred residents to today’s sixty-four thousand residents.

The area of Rowlett has a long history and was first settled in the 1840s. The first post office opened in 1880, then known as Morris, but was later changed in recognition of Rowlett Creek. The Greenville and Dallas Railroad reached the community in 1889 and by 1900, it was a vibrant agricultural town with several services and stores. The Bankhead Highway, which ran from San Diego, California, to Washington, D.C., reached Rowett in 1921. Then in 1952, the city was incorporated. Today, Rowlett continues to have excellent services. For example, the city has a police department with one hundred and twenty-four full-time employees, including ninety-two sworn officers. The city encompasses Sapphire Bay Marina, Bayside Sailing Club, Waterview Golf Club, and more than six hundred acres of parkland. Amenities vary from park to park, for example, Herfurth Park offers pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, pavilions, picnic tables, barbecue grills, and an in-line hockey rink, while Kenwood Heights Park offers just over three acres of open space with a shaded playground and uncovered picnic tables. Other parks include Isaac Scruggs Park, Katy Railroad Park, Lakes of Springfield Park, Lakeside Park, Paddle Point Park, Pecan Grove Park, Rowlett Community Park, Scenic Point Park, Scentral Bark dog park, Schrade Bluebonnet Park, Shorewood Park, Veteran’s Park, Twin Star Park, and Rowlett Nature Trail.

All of these outstanding amenities contribute to the desirability of Rowlett real estate.
